Penn Relays Reunion 2008
Gentlemen, the staging of the annual Penn Relays is slated for April 24th, 25th, 26th, of 2008. For those of you who have never attended a Penn Relays, much less one that is staged in an Olympic year, you are in for a good ole time. We know this because many of the top Jamaican and American athletes will be on display as they attempt to “gauge” where they are in terms of their Olympic preparations. It is usually a good thing, and most of us cannot wait for the USA versus the Rest of the World races.
We will also gather to watch Kingston College and the other Jamaican schools bring glory to our tiny home in the sun. It is usually a joyous and festive occasion as we “catch up” with each other, and get a understanding of what is going on in our lives.
The hotel of choice once again is the Hilton Hotel by the airport. Typically, the athletes from across the nation and the internationals occupy the hotels in downtown Philadelphia and space is usually booked from a year in advance. This hotel has always been accommodating, and vacancies are usually available up the last week prior to the relays. Due to the uncertainty of individuals who will be attending, we have always asked that individuals call for themselves and book their rooms in advance of the relays. It is too much of a burden to place that responsibility on one person to block rooms then individuals do not show up. Therefore, each person or group of persons must call and book their own rooms. The hotel is a short five-minute drive from Franklyn Field.
The hotel information is as follows:
Hilton by the Airport
4509 Island Avenue
Philadelphia, PA 19153
(215) 365 – 4150.
You can also click on the following link to view the hotel’s web site (http://www1.hilton.com/en_US/hi/hotel/PHLAHHF-Hilton-Philadelphia-Airport-Pennsylvania/index.do).
You can make your reservations via this site as well.
See you all in Philadelphia. For those of you who have not attended, and have used the excuse that you did not have advance time to plan for vacation, well now that excuse is no longer valid. The Relays are approximately three months away.
